<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">The new film <b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/" style="color: yellow;">Anonymous</a></b> proposes a theory that the man the world knows as </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">William Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> was not who he seemed to be. Was <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">William Shakespeare</a> merely a public face for the the world's greatest playwright? After watching this film, you may begin to wonder.<br /><br />The film is framed as a play taking place in modern day telling the story of the period piece portion of the film. The Prologue, portrayed by <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001394/" style="color: #999999;">Derek Jacobi</a>, comes out on stage declaring a series of facts about <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">Shakespeare</a>; that no manuscripts were ever found written in his own hand, that he was illiterate, and that he spent his later years away from his life in theater entirely in a menial trade. The Prologue implies that these are all facts that support the tale about to unfold. <br /><br />Through a very well executed dissolve, the period piece portion of the film takes over for the majority of the film. Once transported to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabethan_era" style="color: #999999;">Elizabethan era</a>, the usual suspects of the day appear: royals <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_I" style="color: #999999;">Queen Elizabeth I</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_I_of_England" style="color: #999999;">King James I</a>, playwrights <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jonson" style="color: #999999;">Ben Johnson</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Marlowe" style="color: #999999;">Christopher Marlowe</a>, royal advisers <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Cecil,_1st_Baron_Burghley" style="color: #999999;">William</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cecil,_1st_Earl_of_Salisbury" style="color: #999999;">Robert Cecil</a>, the earls of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Devereux,_2nd_Earl_of_Essex" style="color: #999999;">Essex</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Wriothesley,_3rd_Earl_of_Southampton" style="color: #999999;">South Hampton</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">Oxford</a>, and of course </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">William Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> himself. <br /><br />It is the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">Earl of Oxford</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">Edward de Vere</a>, that </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/" style="color: yellow;">Anonymous</a></b></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> claims was the true scribe of </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">'s words. From an early age the future </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">Earl of Oxford</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> is drafting and presenting his work for </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_I" style="color: #999999;">Queen Elizabeth I</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">, the first production being a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer_Night%27s_Dream" style="color: #999999;">Midsummer Night's Dream</a>. However due to his station in life, it would be inappropriate for him to be presenting his own work, but he is compelled to have it performed. <br /><br />To that end he enlists </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jonson" style="color: #999999;">Ben Johnson</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> to be his public persona and offers to pay him handsomely to do so. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jonson" style="color: #999999;">Johnson</a> agrees to stage the play <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a> gives him, but cannot bring himself to take credit for the work and bills the play authored by </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Anonymous</span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">. But as the audience calls for the playwright, company actor </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">William Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> comes out onto stage to take credit...and so begins the greatest scam of literary history?<br /><br />The film portrays </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> as a man both artistically and politically passionate. To prevent the truth of a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamlet" style="color: #999999;">Hamlet</a>esque murder to come to light, </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> is forced to marry the daughter of his former guardian <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Cecil,_1st_Baron_Burghley" style="color: #999999;">William Cecil</a>, one of </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_I" style="color: #999999;">Queen Elizabeth I</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">'s most trusted advisers. <span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Unfortunately, all's well does not end well for the period piece players in </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/" style="color: yellow;">Anonymous</a></b></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> is blackmailed and nearly brought to bankruptcy by </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">, it's implied </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Marlowe" style="color: #999999;">Marlowe</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> is killed by </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> in an attempt to prevent himself from being exposed as a fraud, the Earls of </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Devereux,_2nd_Earl_of_Essex" style="color: #999999;">Essex</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Wriothesley,_3rd_Earl_of_Southampton" style="color: #999999;">South Hampton</a> are convicted of treason and </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Devereux,_2nd_Earl_of_Essex" style="color: #999999;">Essex</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> beheaded, </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_I" style="color: #999999;">Queen Elizabeth I</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> spends her remaining days a much frailer monarch having her mind poisoned by the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iago" style="color: #999999;">Iago</a>esque </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cecil,_1st_Earl_of_Salisbury" style="color: #999999;">Robert Cecil</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">, and </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jonson" style="color: #999999;">Johnson</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> himself haunted by a promise made to </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> to never betray his secret. In fact, the only person to survive, in another <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamlet" style="color: #999999;">Hamlet</a>esque fashion, is </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_I_of_England" style="color: #999999;">King James</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> of Scotland, now </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_I_of_England" style="color: #999999;">King James I</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. </span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/" style="color: yellow;">Anonymous</a></b></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> ends ultimately with a dissolve back to the theatre and with a final presentation by the Prologue. The end credits are displayed against a backdrop of people leaving the theater. This story within the story is a very powerful way to portray how the human mind often will process theater and film, by taking ourselves into the story directly with disregard to the surroundings themselves.</span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">There are several moments in the film that provoke a strong reaction to the skills of the story and actors. The two that most stand out for the Filmfreak Mafia are when the Earl of </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Devereux,_2nd_Earl_of_Essex" style="color: #999999;">Essex</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> barges in on </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_I" style="color: #999999;">Queen Elizabeth I</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> while she is changing and when </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jonson" style="color: #999999;">Ben Johnson</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> meets </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> for the last time. Both exemplify the principle that narrative can leave a lasting impression without the assistance of mechanical and inorganic special effects.</span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">When the the Earl of </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Devereux,_2nd_Earl_of_Essex" style="color: #999999;">Essex</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> storms in on the </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_I" style="color: #999999;">Queen</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> changing, we see an older </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_I" style="color: #999999;">Elizabeth</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> in an exceptionally vulnerable state. She is in her dressing gown, her traditional red haired wig is off showing her natural white hair, and the expression on her face is unmistakable. A combination of disbelief that the Earl has the audacity to enter without permission and absolute horror that he is seeing her in her natural state. This moment of most raw humility is one that is captured exquisitely on film and enhanced by the actors portrayals themselves.</span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jonson" style="color: #999999;">Ben Johnson</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> first refused </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">'s offer and then as he saw the plays performed and </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> get the credit and adulation, he resented both men for eclipsing his attempts at success. He eventually reported on the production of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_III_%28play%29" style="color: #999999;">Richard III</a> to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Revels" style="color: #999999;">Master of Revels</a>, since Richard was being portrayed as a hunchback, a slight to </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Cecil,_1st_Earl_of_Salisbury" style="color: #999999;">Robert Cecil</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">. But as before and again now, </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> knew he had made the right choice in choosing </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Jonson" style="color: #999999;">Johnson</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> poignantly says to him "<i>You may have betrayed me, but you will never betray my words.</i>"</span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Some will say that </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/" style="color: yellow;">Anonymous</a></b></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> is attempting to bring up old theories regarding the validity of the works of </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shakespeare" style="color: #999999;">William Shakespeare</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">. However, </span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/" style="color: yellow;">Anonymous</a></b></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="color: blue;"></span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"> is at its core a story, whether you choose to believe it, should not diminish the enjoyment you get from the portrays. Isn't that the premise of the film itself? To show that words are the most powerful tool at humankind's disposal? </span></div>
<div style="color: blue;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1521197/" style="color: yellow;">Anonymous</a></b></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="color: blue;"> shows how </span></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_devere" style="color: #999999;">de Vere</a></span><span style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="color: blue;">'s words inspired the common man to rise up against perceived tyranny and to soften the heart of a monarch who had long ago banished him from her court. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">As the finalist interview begins, Zach is in disbelief that the boy standing before him is claiming to be Danny Reyes, the writer and director of <i><u>Judas Kiss</u></i>. <i><u>Judas Kiss</u></i> was the film that Zach had won the film festival with 15 years earlier. Danny Reyes is his real name, before he changed it after moving to Hollywood to Zachary Wells.</span></div>

As Zach and Danny try to find a way to co-exist during the remainder of the film festival, each is confronted with choices that will forever affect the other. From Danny becoming involved with Shane Lyons (who's family is he primary benefactor of the school's film program) at the cost of a budding romance with fellow student Chris Wachowsky, to Zach following the advice of the mysterious Mr. Welds and setting into motion the events that could disqualify Danny's film from competition, the past and present collide and make a most uncertain future.<br />

It shows that even though the root cause of a lifetime of unhappiness may be a single event, without understanding the motivation for that mistake, the same end result is inevitable. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Adam arrives in </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles" style="color: #999999;">Los Angeles</a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">,</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> a little impressionable, only to be greeted by his opportunistic and somewhat jaded friend Candy, who's been trying to make her mark on the acting world with limited success. Candy has a fiance who has been supporting her endeavors. Adam is not so fortunate and goes on a series of interviews for jobs, signs up for temp work, and eventually lands a job as a receptionist at a talent agency. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">The job does not last long due to his mildly </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OCD"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">OCD</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> boss pushes him over the edge, and a chance meeting at the local gym with freelance photographer/director/editor Nick, who helps Adam land a job at porn company </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Set_Men"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Jet Set Men</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> as an office assistant. Adam's boss Ron is very happy with his work but is always encouraging him to appear in front of the camera. Eventually Adam agrees to do a single nude modeling photo shoot for Ron, but only if Nick is the photographer. Sparks begin to fly at the photo shoot, and Adam and Nick wind up dating.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">After Candy and her finance break up, she has no choice but to raise Adam's rent, and so begins escalating his descent into the adult entertainment world. First Adam agrees to do a solo scene with Nick as the photographer, which eventually leads to a full-on porn film, and peaks with Adam becoming one of Ron's secret high end discrete escorts.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As Adam's life becomes more complex, Nick's recreational drug use escalates. Adam reaches his breaking point when Nick takes him to a party at an influential film producers home, only to find Nick having sex with the host of the party. But Adam's single life does not last long, as he becomes romantically involved with his next escorting client.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">John is a major star on a family friendly TV series and in the closet. John whisks Adam away from his porn/escort work and offers him a job not only as his boyfriend, but as his personal assistant. Unfortunately Adam's former boss turns up like a bad penny and tips off the tabloids that Adam used to do gay porn and the suspicions that John and Adam are more than just employer/employee begin.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">John needing to protect his image lets Adam go both as his personal assistant and boyfriend, and Adam prepares to head Miami for a fresh start. In a true Hollywood ending though, John realizes his love for Adam is more important than any career fall-out, and the two drive off into the sunset with Candy staying behind to talk to the tabloids and cash in on her fifteen minutes of fame.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As with his previous films, </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0028220/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Casper Andreas</span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">has created a story that draws you in and makes you genuinely feel for the characters struggles and hope that they will overcome then. While we see Adam go through what may be a typical Hollywood story in terms of doing anything to get by, he does not lose sight that in the end, love is far more important than any amount of career success. When John comes to realize this as well, the audience is left with a sense that even in Hollywood, a fairy tale ending is possible.</span>Sean C.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13374138615687485230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6839803880704787321.post-22897525082538089312011-10-19T13:50:00.000-07:002011-10-19T13:50:28.562-07:00We Were Here<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One of the most heart wrenching stories is from a man who was infected in the early days of the disease and participated in an early drug trial that wound up killing all of the participants, including his partner at the time. Also featured are a married couple from Massachusetts who discuss the methods they have used over their long-term relationship, including being sexually non-monogamous for a period of time, only to return to being exclusively monogamous.</span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">The documentary also provides a brief history of how gay men have traditionally and currently seek out relationships, including how gay men are often early adopters of new technology to that end. The founders of </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhunt.net"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Manhunt</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">, </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grindr"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Grindr</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> and </span><a href="http://MyPartner.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">MyPartner.com</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> provide interviews how they came to found their companies and how they feel they are impacting the gay community. </span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Possibly the most informative part of the documentary is the statistical data which indicates that 80% of gay men are seeking a long-term relationship, but only 1/3 have found one. The reasons for this according to the experts can include a variety of factors, with one of the main ones being childhood isolation that many gay men experience. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Since there are fewer accurate representations of gay life growing up, gay men often undergo a second adolescent sexual awakening once they come out. The result is that in comparison to their straight counterparts, gay men are starting long-term relationship game late. However, the interpersonal issues facing gay couples are virtually identical to those of straight couples, according to the experts in the film.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">While </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1980178/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: yellow;"><b>Man 2 Man</b></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> may be intended as a film for gay men to better understand themselves, </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1930821/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Hines</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> has created a film that can provide a greater understanding to both gay and straight audience alike. <div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
Opening tonight at Seattle's very own <a href="http://www.seattlecinerama.com/" style="color: #666666;">Seattle Cinerama</a><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinerama"></a> is <a href="http://seattlecinerama.com/966/70mm-film-festival" style="color: #666666;">The Big Screen 70mm Film Festival</a>, three weeks of the best in classic film, shown as they were meant to be...on a <b>BIG SCREEN</b>. </div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<a href="http://www.seattlecinerama.com/" style="color: #666666;">Seattle Cinerama</a> is one of only three remaining <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinerama" style="color: #666666;">Cinerama</a> venues in the world, the other two being in Los Angles, California and Bedford, England, and the only one still capable of showing Super Cinerama. No longer managed by AMC Theaters, <a href="http://www.seattlecinerama.com/" style="color: #666666;">Seattle Cinerama</a>'s new management, Greg Wood, owner and operator of Portland’s <a href="http://www.rosewaytheater.com/" style="color: #666666;">Roseway Theater</a>, has transformed the theater into a true community invested venue. Through an active <a href="http://www.twitter.com/seattlecinerama" style="color: #666666;">Twitter</a> and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/SeattleCinerama" style="color: #666666;">Facebook</a><span style="color: #666666;"> </span>presence, <a href="http://www.seattlecinerama.com/" style="color: #666666;">Seattle Cinerama</a> often asks its patrons what they would like to see next, as well as hosting various local film festivals throughout the year. In a word, <a href="http://www.seattlecinerama.com/" style="color: #666666;">Seattle Cinerama</a> is what the film going experience is meant to be.</div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
But you may ask what is the <a href="http://j.mp/filmfreakmafia"><b style="color: red;">Filmfreak Mafia</b></a> going to be will be seeing at <a href="http://seattlecinerama.com/966/70mm-film-festival" style="color: #666666;">The Big Screen 70mm Film Festival</a>, well here's our anticipated attendance list, a small fraction of the total offerings:</div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045231/"><span style="color: yellow;">This Is Cinerama</span></a> - wonderful documentary on the evolution of the technical aspects of film and one of only two films in the festival to be utilizing <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinerama" style="color: #666666;">Cinerama</a>'s three panel projection technology</div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059742/" style="color: yellow;">Sound of Music</a> - since the hills were always meant to be seen on a BIG SCREEN</div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055614/" style="color: yellow;">West Side Story</a> - how can you truly appreciate the Sharks and the Jets unless you see them the size of Godzilla attacking Tokyo</div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084827/" style="color: yellow;">TRON</a> - seeing <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/" style="color: yellow;">TRON Legacy</a> at <a href="http://www.seattlecinerama.com/" style="color: #666666;">Seattle Cinerama</a> was amazing so seeing the story of how it all began there too, just seems right</div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
See you all at the movies...</div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For anyone who has ever bought or sold a house, you know how harrowing an experience it can be. But imagine you are a good natured realtor who always puts his client's financial welfare above your own commission, trying to flip a house to pay for your ailing mother's treatment, only to find out it's haunted? Worse yet, the house is fighting you every step of the way to find a buyer, even a buyer who wants the house because it's haunted? Richard and his co-worker and friend Dave are tricked into buying the house from another agent in their office, Mary Best. While starting to prepare the house for viewing, Richard is confronted by one of accused killer Oliver Crandell's victims in the house's attic, and so begins a series of classic horror film hyjinx, including bleeding walls, a closet that is portal to the spirit world and of course cabinets opening on their own.</div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">Everyday the news is filled with stories of people who have gone missing and as the immediate sensationalism has passed, their fates may never be known. For those left behind, life becomes a waiting game on multiple levels, most importantly legally and financially. </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1610996/"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: yellow;">Absentia</span></b></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">, one of the five featured films at this year's </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.mifff.org/schedule2011.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival (MIFFF)</span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> tells one such story. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"><br /></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">Tricia's husband disappeared from their home seven years ago. As her sister Callie reappears in her life, Tricia is preparing to have her husband declared </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_in_absentia"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">dead in absentia</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">. Shortly after her husband is legally declared dead, Tricia begins to see her husband Daniel. At first she believes it is guilt driven hallucinations for having him declared dead in order to access his life insurance to help pay her mounting debt and for being pregnant with another man's child. But when Daniel returns home in a state of shock, unable to explain where he has been for the past seven years, a supernatural conspiracy involving the tunnel near their home and a series of missing persons spanning back over a hundred years, begins to unravel.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">After Daniel goes missing for a second time, Tricia reaches a breaking point. She disappears shortly after Daniel, leaving her sister Callie is left to answer questions of the police and of her self. Callie begins to try to put the pieces together of the puzzle involving the tunnel and ends up joining the lost.</span><br />

Melanie's grief finds solace in a doll with a mannequin head and shoulders, and sewn together arms, legs and torso, making the doll look like a cross between an anorexic model and a muppet. Melanie keeps the doll with her every where she goes for company. At first Melanie speaks for the doll, just so she can hear another voice in the silence of the house, but over time the she hears her mother's voice coming from the doll.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Unlike </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0003067/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Norman Bates</span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">, Melanie's affinity for making dolls has caught the eye of her former high school classmate Dukken (Danish for doll) which inspires Melanie to make a doll for Dukken. M</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">elanie runs into another high school classmate, Kenny, who works at the local convince store and becomes her supplier of </span><a href="http://www.hostesscakes.com/snoballs.asp"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Hostess Sno Balls</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Eventually with the help of Dukken, Melanie weans herself off of the mother doll by burning her in a field, and of Dukken as well, by stabbing him in the kitchen with a knife (much like the one </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0003067/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Norman Bates</span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> used to kill </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0003070/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Marion Crane</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">). Melanie's final release of the pain washes away in the shower as Dukken's blood washes off of her (in a scene reminiscent of the shower scene in </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054215/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: orange;">Psycho</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">). <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In its final scenes, several questions about perceptions of the grieving mind come to light. Was Melanie really hearing her mother's voice from the doll? Was Dukken simply Melanie's memory of Kenny from high school she had projected onto the other doll? Would </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0003067/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Norman Bates</span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> have turned out very differently has he been interested doll making and not taxidermy? </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">This year's opening night feature for the </span><a href="http://www.mifff.org/schedule2011.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">2011 Maelstrom International Fantastic Film Festival (MIFFF)</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> was </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1068961/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: yellow;"><b>Midnight Son</b></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">, a unique re-telling of the traditional vampire legend. This is the story of a young man named Jacob who suffers from a rare allergy to the sun (most likely a severe form of polymorphous light exposure) and discovers the only cure for his seemingly escalating anemia is drinking blood. The film follows Jacob on his transformation from a shy, loner into a blood addicted, junkie.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Jacob first tries to drink animal blood from the butcher, but like with any addiction, his need for stronger and more frequent doses leads him to seek out human blood. With the help of an unscrupulous hospital nurse named Marcus, Jacob's addiction becomes worse, and he begins to drink at first previously extracted human blood, but in the final transformation into a full fledged vampire, must have warm blood from living humans. This need leads him to commit murders he cannot remember and to the realization that his attacks can lead to his victims becoming infected with his condition, including his girlfriend Mary and his blood-dealer Marcus.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1068961/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: yellow;"><b>Midnight Son</b></span></a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">'s interpretation of the vampire legend is very 21st century as being the cause of genetic origin and not a magical one. </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059978/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Dark Shadows</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">, the classic cult soap opera from the late 1960's also had a storyline in which the love struck </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0036629/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Dr. Julia Hoffman</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> attempts to use medical science to cure </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0036628/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Barnabas Collins</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> of his </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">vampiric</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;"> curse placed upon him by his wife </span><a href="http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0036634/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #999999;">Angelique</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">, a witch. In a modern world in which belief in things that can only be proven scientifically, Midnight Son offers an explanation that vampires may suffer from a genetic predisposition to certain addictions, perhaps similarly to alcoholics?</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This point is most poignantly portrayed when Jacob is waiting in the back of the hospital waiting for Marcus along with a traditional drug addict. If the scene were to be taken completely out of context, there is no difference between Jacob's desperation and physical symptoms of withdrawal and that of the drug addict also waiting for Marcus.
